Baby Showers and Hospital Tours

we got some cute little girl clothes

Daniel put the stroller together

There was loads of good food....
And the Chocolate Butter-Cream cake with vanilla filling was divine.

A couple of days ago the folks over here threw me a baby shower. We got lots of nice stuff....thank you everybody who contributed! Also, special thank you to everyone in NJ who gave us gifts. Thanks to my family for the little clothes and the books, we've already started reading them together. Thank you Aunt Allie for the awesome playpen, thank you Aunt Rachel for the things you sent a few months ago...I am going to be doing some scrapbooking over the next few weeks with that little baby album.
Yesterday we had tour of the local hospital with our Childbirth Class. We are planning on having a home birth, but the tour was included when we signed up and plus we're pre-admitted to the hosp. should the need arise. Anyway, I thought it looked like an extremely un-relaxing environment to give birth in. The lights were super bright and the bed looked uncomfortable and there were like no private showers or tubs to labor in. I guess if that's all you know your options to be it will work, and this particular hosp. was quite small, but I'm very thankful to have grown up with a familiarity to natural home birth. According to our midwife, Midwifery in Canada has not been around that long compared to the states but recently home birth and using doulas have become more common. Well tomorrow I'm 35 weeks...5 more to go! I think the baby has dropped a bit because everything feels and looks lower...and I am starving ALL THE TIME. It's been hard to sleep at night and recently I've been waking up in the middle of the night ravenous and needing "something" so I usually eat some organic cerial and milk. :) Anyways, here are a few pictures from this week...enjoy.

On Nesting and Baking

nesting instinct baking: two dozen banana-choc muffins and a triple batch of carrot bread

33 weeks pregnant. I know it looks pretty big here, but this is the actual size...and i still have a month and a half to go. oh dear.

Hello Everybody,
I thought it would be a good idea to start a blog to make it easier to keep all our family and friends updated on our happenings these days especially with all the exciting changes going on in our lives.
For starters, today I am 34 weeks pregnant with our little girl and I think it's finally sinking in that this is going to be happening SOON! I've always heard people say how pregnancy goes so fast for others, but when it comes to yourself it seems to take forever. For some reason mine feels like it has really gone so quickly.

I think I've been getting the "nesting instinct" recently. I am not an organizer by nature, actually more of a pig at times, which my family and husband can attest to. But this week I've had this great urge to clean, organize, bake and cook, (freezing most of it). It's great...The other day I went through all my clothes and packed away what I won't use until post-baby. The walk in closet is tidier than I've ever seen it and it feels SO GOOD having things in order. Yesterday I made a triple batch of carrot bread, reducing the sugar. I usually use nearly all whole wheat for my baking but sometimes you just need some good old white flour. The muffins were just a regular banana bread recipe which i dumped a good pile of cocoa powder into and baked in muffin tins. They came out super moist and chocolaty.
